In matter of seconds, our world collapsed.
On July 10, 2020, our lives changed forever. During a workout on his stationary bike, my beloved and talented eldest brother suffered sudden cardiac arrest and died at age 55. The pain is unbearable, our hearts are crushed, and his loss is felt by all of us every day.
In an effort to spare other families the profound grief and loss, and in memory of Hezy, my husband Barak and I decided to donate a defibrillator that is connected to MDA’s 101 emergency call center for the benefit of the public. It was placed in Hayarkon Park, Tel Aviv. See picture below.
You can also be a life-saving partner in Israel.
כל המציל נפש בישראל כאילו הציל עולם ומלואו.
Following the outpouring of support from our community, who also wish to take part in this venture, we set a goal to erect additional defibrillator stations to commemorate Hezy together.
The cost of one defibrillator station is 20,000 NIS (approximately $6,000). Any donation will be appreciated. Together we can make a difference and save lives.
תודה רבה.
Thank you. Yael Dunayer.
About the MDA Venture:
Dr. Oren Zusman z’’l, a husband and a father of 3 young children, suddenly died at 37 from cardiac arrest while working as a cardiologist at Rabin Medical Center in Israel. Dr. Zussman, an extraordinary physician and an excellent researcher, devoted his short life to saving others.
Maayan, Oren's widow, despite her unbearable loss, wishes to continue in his footsteps and has initiated a national project to place as many defibrillators as possible in accessible areas. These defibrillators are placed in smart compartments that are connected to MDA's 101 emergency call center, MDA’s database, and GPS systems. MDA (Magen David Adom) is Israel’s national emergency medical service.
Thus, in case of a cardiac arrest, the MDA teams will guide the caller to the nearest defibrillator, remotely open the compartment and will continue to provide instructions until a MDA team arrives on site.
Every year in Israel, irregardless of age and without warning , about 10,000 people experience sudden cardiac arrest. Only 300 of them will survive and return home to their families. These staggering statistics are impossible to accept and must be changed.
The electric shocks need to be given within 2-4 minutes in order to save a life, therefore, defibrillators need to be in every corner, every street, every institution, and every building in order for us to increase the percentage of survivors.
In the recent months, these defibrillator stations commemorating Dr. Oren Zusman, brought two people back to life. Two people returned to their families and to their lives.
More people can be saved!
Who was Hezy:
Words cannot really describe him. One had to be around Hezy and feel the goodness he radiated. His warm embrace made you feel like you meant the world to him at that very moment. He projected calm, serenity, and optimism.
Hezy Ovadia had every virtue a person could possibly have: wisdom, devotion to his family, good looks, sensitivity, generosity, kindness, and more.
He always knew how to make time for everyone who asked for his support, help and advice. An amazing family man who dedicated himself to his three perfect children, his wife, his parents, his sisters, his brothers-in-law, his nephews and nieces, his extended family, his friends, his acquaintances and his colleagues. He was interested in many areas and would share with those around him his findings and self-enrichment. He was always successful and brought a lot of pride: as a family man, as an officer in the Israeli army, in his studies, and in his appointment as CEO of Neviot (one of Israel’s leading water bottling companies) before he reached the age of 40.
We take comfort knowing that he was able to master the art of enjoying life. Wisely and sensitively, he valued and cherished every moment, and documented them through his passion for photography as if he knew time was running out. We miss him dearly.
