On the morning of October 7, the late Omri Niv Fireshtien, along with his fellow members of the Tavor Search and Rescue Unit, rescued over one hundred and thirty trainees, soldiers and civilians from the cruel and brutal terrorist attack launched by Hamas terrorists on their base and the nearby towns and kibbutzim.
From the beginning the commanding staff were focused on their mission - to save lives. At that moment they didn’t consider the danger to themselves, and their sole focus was on saving lives.
Omri gathered the trainees in a shelter, calmed them and the staff, assisted in evacuating the wounded, and then went out to help his comrades at a forward position exposed to dozens of terrorists. The combatants were at a significant disadvantage, outnumbered in terms of ammunition and numbers, but they had courage, love of humanity, and great concern for the trainees and civilians in the shelter. Omri knew there would be a price, but he did not hesitate.
The Zikim base remained uncaptured, but seven of the company’s staff, including Omri, were killed.
Kobi Fireshtien, father of the late Omri Niv Fireshtien, wishes to honor Omri's memory by saving lives through the donation of defibrillators in his name.
A defibrillator is a life-saving device that, in the case of cardiac arrest, delivers electric shocks to restart the heart. Having a defibrillator within reach increases the chances of survival from 6% to 65% or more, while avoiding brain damage.
Help us place these devices in public spaces, and together with Omri Z"L, we will continue to save lives!
Kobi Fireshtien, father of the late Omri Niv Fireshtien: "The English poet Thomas Campbell wrote, “When we remain in the hearts we leave behind us, that means we are not dead.” We hope that Omri will remain in our hearts and those that will be saved.
We believe that his death was not in vain. The purpose of his death is identical to his purpose of his life: saving lives.
It is said in the nineteenth chapter of the Book of Deuteronomy, “I have testified
in you today the heavens and the earth, life and death I have set before you
the blessing and the curse, and you have chosen life so that you and your
descendants may live.”
