"What can suddenly stop a young, healthy man from waking up?"
This question was tweetted by Dr. Oren Zusman, a cardiology resident and internal medicine specialist, on March 2018, when a famous football player died in his sleep. In another tweet, he also supplied the answered - "almost all people die from cardiac arrest". He also added a warning- "if you know of a sudden death in your family, particularly at a young age, notify your doctor."
In January 2019, less than a year later, Oren tragically died of cardiac arrest.
Oren's family and Israeli Friends of Magen David Adom are determined to change this reality by distributing defibrillators in public areas, which can improve survival rates from 6% to 60% and more!
Help us place as many defibrillators as possible, and together we will carry on Oren's legacy of saving hearts!
Dr. Oren Zusman died at 37 from cardiac arrest while working as a cardiologist at. Rabin Medical Center.Oren, an extraordinary physician and an excellent researcher, devoted his short life to saving others. When he wasn't working, he spent his days with his wife, Maayan, and their three small children Alon (6), Yuval (4) and Ella (1).
On top of his family life and busy clinical work as a cardiology resident as well as Chief Resident of his department, Oren led extensive research work and also represented Mirsham organization at Rabin Medical Center. The Israel Cardiology Association described Oren’s career as filled with honorary excellence awards, and his many Twitter followers eagerly followed a professional and compassionate doctor through the various dilemmas he shared.
In Israel about 10,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals each year. 94 out of 100 won't survive!
These statistics are impossible to accept and have to be changed!
In Detroit, survival rates soured to 60% after distributing defibrillators in public spaces!! Israeli Friends of MDA have decided to take action, and together we can change reality in Israel.
In a case of a cardiac arrest, like the one who sadly claimed Oren’s life and those of many others, the sooner we administer electric shocks and restart the heart, the greater the chances are for survival. Oren knew this and frequently updated his Twitter followers as to where they can find those defibrillators.
Maayan, Oren's widow, wishes to continue in his path and join our national project to distribute as many defibrillators as possible for the public.
These defibrillators are placed in smart, highly visual branded compartments, are connected to MDA's database and GPS systems.
Thus, in case of a cardiac arrest, the MDA teams will guide the caller to the nearest defibrillator, remotely open the compartment and will continue to provide instructions until MDA team arrives on site.
We urge you to take part in this life saving initiative! Help up distribute as many defibrillators as possible to help save lives and commemorate Oren.
