"Life is the way, not the goal"
These words were spoken to me by my father, Chief superintendent Avi Amar, in his last letter to me.
On Oct. 7, 2023, Simchat Tora, we were woken up by the sirens, we understood something unusual was happening and we both went out to help and save lives, me as an EMT, him as a police officer.
While I was treating the wounded from the combat zones, he was fighting and rescuing as many people as he could, during the day he managed to save hundreds of lives in 5 different combat zones, first Sderot, Sa'ad, Kfar Aza, Beit Kama junction and finally, Be'eri, after taking another officer's place on a lightly armored convoy, heading into the fire to clear the kibbutz and being hit by an RPG rocket from a terrorist ambush.
My father was killed immediately, at 14:57, Leaving behind 2 grieving parents, 10 siblings, A widow and 7 orphans, one of which was born six months after his death and will never get to meet his own father.
But as he himself said, Life is the way, so let me tell you about his way.
Zionism, striving to be the best and the sanctity of life, these were the values he raised us by, so much so that he was the one who convinced me to take the MDA's paramedics course and the reason I was able to save tens of lives on that horrible day.
On my and my sister's 17'th birthday, the minimum age possible, as his birthday gift to us, he taught us the importance of giving and took us both to donate blood, both of us donated every 3 months after that, because that's how he raised us.
Donate now and help me continue my father's legacy of giving and saving lives by dedicating a MICU in his honor.
