Sweet little Maya was born a perfectly healthy child on December 4, 2017.
Maya's case is rare, unimaginable, and heart-wrenching. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of six.
Maya fell ill with the flu, as did her mother and brother, but her condition rapidly deteriorated into myocarditis (it is unclear if the flu caused the myocarditis).
On Tuesday, February 27, after two days of fever and vomiting—and following blood tests the night before at an urgent care center that showed typical results—she was taken back to urgent care. Tragically, during the drive, Maya collapsed.
Her father pulled over on the roadside and, under the guidance of Magen David Adom's emergency call center, began performing CPR. A Magen David Adom intensive care ambulance was dispatched to the scene. The team continued with intensive resuscitation efforts and transported her to the pediatric emergency department at Rambam Hospital. For over an hour, the medical staff worked tirelessly to revive her, but despite their heroic efforts, they could not restore her pulse. Maya's death was pronounced shortly thereafter.
Maya was a sweet, beautiful, gentle, and loving child, full of life and health. Her sudden passing left all of us in utter shock and with a gaping hole in our hearts.
Please help us honor Maya's memory by installing a smart CPR station equipped with a defibrillator and an automated cabinet.
In cases of cardiac arrest, the faster a defibrillator is used to restore heart activity, the greater the chances of survival.
Help us commemorate the life of beloved Maya, of blessed memory.
