Saving lives by raising funds for an MDA Ambulance in memory of the Shebo Family
In 2002, the Shebo family experienced an unimaginable tragedy.
On June 20, 2002, Boaz Shebo, a paramedic and ambulance driver with Magen David Adom, was dispatched to treat victims of a terrorist attack in the community of Itamar — unaware that the attack had taken place in his own home.
A terrorist had infiltrated the family’s house and brutally murdered his wife, Rachel, and three of their children: Neria (16), Tzvika (12), and Avishai (5). Two more children were wounded during the attack — Avia (13) and Asael (9).
Boaz’s daughter, Atara Shebo, arrived at the scene and was confronted with the horrific reality. After ensuring that she had no physical injuries, MDA medics transferred her to the security forces for protection, as there was still heavy fire at the scene.
Despite the overwhelming loss, Boaz never stopped volunteering with Magen David Adom. Atara chose to volunteer as well, completing an Emergency Medical Responder course, thus continuing the family’s legacy of service. Atara continued to volunteer and later trained as an ambulance driver. Today, she works for MDA as a full-time ambulance driver. Even his granddaughter Ori, who is currently taking a paramedic course, volunteers with MDA.
“At the time of the attack I was very young and didn’t know how I could contribute,” Atara shares. “Today, it is deeply moving for me to be part of the MDA team. I chose to commemorate my family by dedicating an ambulance in their name — and together, to continue saving lives.”
Help raise funds for an MDA ambulance in memory of my own family, the Shebo family.
