Liron Sharvit, z” l, was a joyful young man who loved life, a devoted friend and a protective brother. A soldier in the Duvdevan unit, he believed deeply that helping others one of life’s highest values. Today, we honor his memory by continuing his legacy of giving through the donation of life-saving defibrillators to MDA emergency responders
Liron grew up in Ramla, where he attended Ben Zvi Elementary School in the Neve Yehonatan neighborhood. He was a good student, surrounded by friends who remained by his side for many years. Although he enjoyed the mischief of childhood, he always knew where to draw the line.
In 1991, his family moved to Beit Hashmonai. Liron continued his education at Herzog Regional High School, where he successfully completed his studies in film and photography. He loved filming and had a special talent for turning everyday moments into unique personal films.
Talent, Determination and Giving Back to the Community
Liron excelled academically and was highly regarded by his teachers. His smile and personality won the hearts of those around him. He also devoted much of his time to sports, joining the Maccabi Nesher boxing club in the Gezer Regional Council, where he became one of its leading members. Inspired by him, several of his friends joined as well.
Through the HaNoar HaOved Ve HaLomed youth movement, Liron found additional ways to give back. He visited patients in hospitals, helped the elderly and painted their homes before the holidays. He later completed training as a youth leader and was greatly loved and respected by his young trainees.
Fulfilling His Dream as a Duvdevan Combat Soldier
As early as tenth grade, Liron began preparing for combat service in an elite military unit. He explored his options and trained with determination to ensure he would be ready.
At the end of July 1998, he enlisted in the IDF. After completing his training, he fulfilled his dream and became a combat soldier in the elite Duvdevan Unit.
When he was called to his final mission, Liron was on vacation in Eilat. He hurried back to his unit. In his last conversation with his mother, he tried to reassure her: “Don’t worry, Mom, everything is fine.”
Liron fell in the line of duty on August 26, 2000 (26 Av 5760), during a military operation in Samaria. He was killed as a result of mistaken identity during an exchange of fire in the Palestinian village of Asira ash-Shamaliya.
He was just twenty and a half years old.
Liron was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Ramla. He left behind loving parents, a sister and a brother. His younger brother, Lior, was born after his death.
His father created a website in his memory, and on the tenth anniversary of Liron’s death, the family published the book titled "In Your Death, You Commanded Us to Live".
His mother, Peri, wrote: “Liron is no longer with us, but our home is always filled with his presence, and everyone continues to remember him and dream of him.”
Continuing His Legacy by Saving Lives
Liron was always there for his family, his friends and his community. Today, we honor his memory by continuing his legacy of compassion and generosity through a fundraising campaign to provide Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency responders with life-saving defibrillators.
These defibrillators will enable the emergency responders to provide life-saving medical care in cases of cardiac arrest and will continue Liron’s legacy and commitment to helping others.
