MDA's National Project for Provision of Human Milk, known as the "National Milk Bank," aims to provide regulated and safe human breast milk for infants and premature babies in need, and particularly those who cannot receive milk directly from their mothers. The milk bank operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and conducts rigorous screening, testing, and storage processes to ensure the quality and safety of the milk.
The milk bank conducts a comprehensive survey of breast milk donors and monitors their health throughout the donation period.
The collected milk undergoes bacterial testing and nutritional analysis, as well as a controlled pasteurization process to ensure it is free from harmful pathogens and safe for use.
Processed breast milk donations are provided to premature babies and infants in need, including those, whose mothers have passed away, have been abducted, injured, or enlisted in the army. During Operation Iron Swords, MDA delivered one and a half tons of breast milk to infants and premature babies.
The importance of the milk bank in saving the lives of premature babies:
Breast milk is the most recommended food for infants, especially for premature babies who do not receive any other milk. Breast milk contains unique nutritional and immune components essential for the development of premature infants.
The milk bank saves the lives of infants and premature babies in need of breast milk for various reasons, allowing them to receive the best nutrition.
