In August 2023, firefighters Dekel Marciano and Addan Asaad arrived in the village of Deir al-Asad in Galilee to rescue an employee who had fallen into an open pit. During this rescue operations both firefighters tragically lost their lives. Addan was killed on August 13, 2023, and Dekel passed away from his injuries on August 15, 2023.
Sergeant Addan Asaad, of Beit Jann, served in the Israeli Fire and Rescue Service as a firefighter since 2019. He also volunteered as an EMT at MDA’s Carmiel station. He was 40 years old at his demise and left behind grieving parents, brothers, sisters, wife, and three children—the youngest of whom was only a month and a half old. Addan was known as a brave, responsible, ambitious, and compassionate person. His friends describe his spirit of volunteerism, his dedication and aspiration to professionalism and excellence. Addan always smiled, laughed, and made sure the shift was always organized. Throughout his years of service, he was volunteer and fire scout supervisor. He volunteered to lead a course at the National Service program at the Fire and Rescue Academy, just two weeks after his daughter’s birth.
Sergeant Dekel Yehuda Marciano, from Ma’alot Tarshiha, enlisted in the Fire and Rescue Service on August 18, 2013. He served as a firefighter and youth firefighter at the Central Galilee Regional Station in the Northern District until his fall. He was 33 at the time of his demise. He left behind grieving parents, three brothers, his wife, and three children—Lavi, Niv, and Ori—who was only a month and a half old during the incident. Dekel was laid to rest at the new Ga’aton cemetery.
Dekel always acted with bravery, determination, and professionalism during the countless incidents of saving lives and property. He helped establish the station’s "Runners 102" team, and in 2016, served as an active firefighter during the wildfire campaign "In Fire and Water," helping save lives and property. Dekel was kind, modest, beloved, and appreciated by everyone, thanks to his charming smile and hearty rolling laughter.
Help us commemorate Addan and Dekel by donating an MDA emergency medi-cycle to the Carmiel district.
